Zurich Airport experienced considerable disruptions today due to global IT outages affecting partner companies and air traffic control. These outages led to operational restrictions, but by mid-afternoon, regular take-offs and landings resumed. Notably, Flughafen Zürich AG’s flight operations systems were not impacted.

The IT issues disrupted various airlines, handling agents, air traffic control, and other airport partners. Zurich Airport’s crisis management team quickly mobilized to mitigate the impact, working closely with affected partners to maintain as much operational continuity as possible.

One of the primary challenges involved manual passenger check-ins by handling agents. Additionally, mid-morning saw temporary suspensions of inbound flights to Zurich due to a shortage of available stands. Nevertheless, departures from Zurich continued uninterrupted, and by mid-afternoon, full flight operations were back in place.

Despite these efforts, the disruptions led to the cancellation of at least 120 flights to and from Zurich, with many others delayed. Additional delays are expected throughout the day. Ground staff and airlines are actively assisting affected passengers with rebooking and alternative travel arrangements. Travelers departing from Zurich Airport are encouraged to check with their airlines for flight status updates or alternative options.

The effective collaboration and emergency plans among Zurich Airport’s partners were instrumental in addressing the crisis and restoring normal flight operations by the afternoon.
