Frankfurt Airport experienced a significant disruption this morning when climate activists illegally entered the premises. The German Federal Police, Hesse State Police, Airport Security and Frankfurt Airport’s fire and emergency department responded swiftly to the incident. For safety reasons, all flight operations were temporarily suspended.

As of 7:50 AM, all runways have resumed operations. However, the disruption has already led to the cancellation of approximately 140 out of the 1,400 scheduled flights for the day. Passengers are advised to anticipate further delays and cancellations throughout the day. It is strongly recommended that travelers check their flight status on their airline’s website before heading to the airport.

A spokesperson for Frankfurt Airport said: “We sharply condemn these unauthorized demonstrations and we reserve the right to take legal action against the participants. Their activities pose severe danger to flight operations – possibly putting human life at risk. These illegal activities represent a dangerous interference with air traffic. The perpetrators face severe penalties and high civil claims for damages.”

Frankfurt Airport’s operational area is protected by a comprehensive security system, featuring a 30km-long fence equipped with advanced technical systems and regular patrols by airport security. In addition, sophisticated alarm chains are in place to alert the police, the airport’s operator, and air traffic control immediately in case of any intrusion into the security-sensitive area. The primary goal of this system is to prevent harm to individuals and ensure that intruders are quickly and safely apprehended.
