Air Kerala, Kerala’s dream of a homegrown airline inches closer to reality.
Dubai-based investors of Zett Fly Aviation Private Limited received an initial No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to operate regional commuter air transport services.
Christened Air Kerala, the airline promises to boost regional connectivity within the state.
Company representatives confirmed to a media that this is a significant step forward in realizing this long-awaited project.
Afi Ahmed, Chairman of Zett Fly, elaborated on the airline’s initial operations. “We plan to connect Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities with Tier 1 and metro airports,” he said, highlighting Air Kerala’s focus on improving accessibility for travelers across Kerala.
These initial domestic flights will utilize ATR 72-600 aircraft.
Setting its sights on international expansion, Air Kerala has ambitious plans for the future.
The company aims to introduce international routes once its fleet reaches 20 aircraft.
Dubai is a strong contender to be one of the first destinations served on this international network.
While the official launch date remains undisclosed, reports suggest Air Kerala is targeting a 2025 launch.
To expedite operations, the airline will soon begin the process of acquiring aircraft, exploring both leasing options and direct purchases from manufacturers.
Air Kerala’s arrival is a welcome addition to Kerala’s aviation landscape. The new airline is expected to offer budget-friendly travel options, making it easier for people to explore the state.
