An Air Europa flight bound for Montevideo from Madrid had to make an emergency landing in Brazil due to severe turbulence. The airline shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Flight UX045 encountered turbulence over the Atlantic, necessitating a diversion to Natal Airport in northeastern Brazil. There were 325 passengers on board.

The turbulence resulted in injuries to at least 30 passengers, as reported by the BBC. Some required immediate medical attention and were taken to the nearest hospital for further treatment. Local medical teams confirmed that 10 passengers were hospitalized, with most injuries involving head trauma, including cranial fractures and facial cuts.

Air Europa announced on X that a replacement aircraft was sent from Madrid on Monday afternoon. Passengers were to be transported from Natal to Recife before continuing to their final destination in Montevideo.
