During the fourth edition of Brazil’s “Sustainable Airports” program, the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) recognized several airports for their exemplary sustainability efforts. Among them were Rio Branco, Cruzeiro do Sul, Tefé, Porto Velho, and Salvador Bahia airports, all part of the VINCI Airports network. Salvador Bahia airport, in particular, stood out, clinching the title of the most sustainable airport in Brazil for the fourth consecutive year in the category handling over five million passengers annually.
The event showcased the proactive environmental strategies implemented under VINCI Airports’ stewardship since 2017 at Salvador Bahia, and since 2022 at Rio Branco, Cruzeiro do Sul, Tefé, and Porto Velho airports in the Amazon region. These efforts include comprehensive environmental action plans featuring an internal awareness program, partnerships with federal universities and NGOs to combat wildlife trafficking, and the adoption of energy-efficient lighting and refrigeration systems. Measures to curb water consumption and innovative waste management practices, such as utilizing waste collectors made from 100% recyclable materials, underscore VINCI Airports’ commitment to sustainability.
In addition to Salvador Bahia’s top honors, Rio Branco airport received accolades as Brazil’s most sustainable airport in the category handling up to one million passengers. Porto Velho secured second place in the same category, while Tefé and Cruzeiro do Sul airports were recognized for their sustainability efforts in categories handling up to a thousand passengers annually.
These awards not only highlight the environmental achievements of VINCI Airports but also affirm its dedication to pioneering sustainable practices across its airport network in Brazil.
