Viva Aerobus has launched a new flight route connecting the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK) with Monterrey, enhancing connections between the Bay Area and the Mexican state of Nuevo León. These flights are scheduled for Mondays and Fridays, catering especially to technology professionals traveling between these two key regions. The timetable is as follows:

  • Leaves Monterrey International Airport (MTY) at 9:35 AM
  • Arrives at San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK) at 12:25 PM
  • Departs OAK at 1:55 PM
  • Lands back in Monterrey at 6:45 PM

“Viva Aerobus is a win for OAK reflecting many years of effort and planning. This flight will lead to even closer ties and economic development between the San Francisco Bay Area, especially the East Bay, and Nuevo León,” says Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “This unique nonstop offered by one of Mexico’s largest and most successful airlines, is great for travelers and makes it easy to use, OAK, the San Francisco Bay Area airport closest to most residents and employers.”

“We are excited to begin operating this new route, connecting the San Francisco Bay Area to Viva Aerobus’ hometown of Monterrey,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus. “San Francisco and the Port of Oakland are key part of our major expansion strategy in the US, as this route will allow passengers to fly non-stop and low fares between these regions, plus allowing them to easily connect through our Monterrey hub to over 30 leisure and business destinations in Mexico,” he added.

Monterrey, often referred to as the “Business Capital of Mexico,” hosts a burgeoning entrepreneurial environment and serves as the headquarters for Viva Aerobus. The city’s tech ties to the Bay Area are significant, highlighted by Tesla’s presence in both Monterrey and nearby Fremont, California.

Viva Aerobus operates North America’s most modern fleet, utilizing Airbus A320 and A321Neo aircraft for the OAK route, which seat 186 and 240 passengers respectively. The airline offers options like “Priority” and “Space +” seating, and for a small fee, passengers can access Wi-Fi, as well as “Viva Play,” which streams movies and TV shows. Named the “Low-Cost Airline of the Year in 2023,” Viva Aerobus also provides a varied menu of food and beverages for purchase. With its hub in Monterrey, the airline ensures smooth connections to its broad network across Mexico.
