WestJet has introduced its third service at Edinburgh Airport, launching a new summer seasonal route to Halifax beginning June 21, 2024. This service will operate three times weekly until September 4, using a Boeing 737.

Passengers can enjoy trips to the historic coastal town of Halifax and gain access to numerous other Canadian locales through WestJet’s expansive network.

This Halifax route marks WestJet’s third new offering from Edinburgh, following successful launches to Calgary and Toronto, and it further enhances Scotland’s direct links with Canada.

With this addition, Edinburgh Airport expands its array of transatlantic flights, increasing its North American reach and boosting tourism to Scotland.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said:

“We are pleased to welcome the arrival of the inaugural flight from Halifax to Edinburgh, the latest addition to our transatlantic routes.”

“Edinburgh Airport is now able to offer three Canadian destinations, increasing our fantastic North America programme to its biggest yet. The Halifax route allows passengers to explore the beauty of Nova Scotia as well as connecting passengers to other Canadian destinations.”

“WestJet’s growing presence in Scotland signifies the demand for transatlantic travel from Edinburgh, both from passengers looking to experience North America as well as those visiting Scotland. We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with WestJet in making these routes a success.”

Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland said:

“The welcome arrival of this new Halifax service, comes at a time when we are seeing record levels of visitor demand from the Canadian market.

“We know this important international market is drawn to Scotland for a variety of reasons including our history, culture and people. These visitors also tend to stay longer, spend more, and visit multiple regions with Edinburgh offering a well-connected gateway to the rest of the country.

“Making it as easy as possible for people to visit here is key and we continue to work closely with partners such as WestJet and Edinburgh Airport to grow direct transatlantic access to Scotland. With the arrival of this new route, and following our recent marketing campaign in Canada, we hope to welcome even more Canadian visitors to Scotland this summer.”
