In a significant expansion of its logistics capabilities, Sun Country Airlines has announced the extension of its Air Transport Services Agreement with Amazon. This extended partnership, now set to continue until 2030 with options to extend further until 2037, marks a strategic enhancement in the airline’s service offerings.

Under the terms of the renewed agreement, Sun Country will significantly augment its cargo fleet. The airline is set to introduce up to eight additional Boeing 737-800 cargo aircraft, starting in early 2025. This expansion will increase the size of Sun Country’s cargo fleet from its current 12 freighters to potentially 20 by the end of 2025.

The phased rollout of these new aircraft will commence in the first quarter of 2025, with the first of the new freighters entering service. The complete set of eight aircraft is expected to be fully operational by the third quarter of the same year. This growth initiative represents a robust response to increasing demands for air freight services, fuelled by e-commerce growth and consumer expectations for speedy deliveries.

Founded as an ultra-low cost carrier, Sun Country Airlines has its base at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, with its headquarters situated on airport grounds. From this hub, the airline operates routes to approximately 140 destinations across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, offering both passenger and cargo services. This latest fleet expansion underscores Sun Country’s commitment to leveraging its strategic partnership with Amazon to enhance operational efficiencies and customer service in its cargo division.

“Amazon is an extremely important customer to Sun Country and strong execution on our current cargo services positioned us well to grow our business. We look forward to continuing to provide services to Amazon into the 2030s,” said Jude Bricker, chief executive officer, Sun Country.
