Munich Airport is pioneering sustainable energy generation with an innovative system that harnesses the power of the sun and wind. FlowGen, a company specializing in green energy solutions, has collaborated with the airport to deploy a unique mobile energy container. This container is equipped with photovoltaic panels and wind rotors, generating energy to charge electric vehicles.

The project, slated to last 12 months, is situated in a parking lot utilized by car rental companies on the airport’s east side. Here, newly arrived rental cars will be charged using energy produced by three small wind turbines and photovoltaic panels. On days with ample wind and sunshine, the container can generate approximately 200 kilowatt hours of energy, sufficient to charge four to six electric cars. Throughout the project’s duration, a wealth of data will be collected and analyzed, shedding light on the efficiency and viability of renewable energy sources.

What sets this system apart is its integration of FlowGen’s small wind turbine with solar and battery storage technologies, all managed by intelligent energy management software. This versatile solution can be swiftly installed, dismantled, and reassembled at different locations, making it not only suitable for airports and electric vehicle charging but also applicable in industries such as agriculture, construction, and manufacturing.

Munich Airport’s collaboration with FlowGen exemplifies a commitment to sustainability and innovation, paving the way for a greener future in energy generation and consumption.
