One of the most celebrated fragrances of all time just got a modern makeover: Today, Chanel launched its first-ever limited-edition bottle of its No.5 perfume with the Chanel No.5 L’Eau Drop fragrance.
The new Chanel No.5 L’Eau Drop eau de toilette arrives in a pebble-shaped glass bottle rather than the classic perfume bottle shape that, with a few variations over the years, has housed the No.5 fragrance collection since 1921. Shaped like a drop of perfume and fitting comfortably in the palm of the hand, the new No.5 L’Eau Drop bottle is designed to become an extension of yourself, encouraging you to live in the present moment. The collector’s item draws inspiration from Marilyn Monroe’s iconic quote from a 1952 interview: When asked what she wore to bed, she replied, “Why Chanel No.5, of course.”

Chanel’s choice to apply this limited-edition packaging to No.5 L’Eau aligns with the new airy, barely-there bottle. Chanel No.5 L’Eau is lighter than Chanel No.5, as it’s formulated as an eau de toilette with less concentration of fragrance than No.5, which is an eau de parfum. Additionally, L’Eau Drop leans more fresh and citrusy than Chanel No.5, with zesty top notes of lemon, mandarin, and orange. Like the original No.5, it combines these invigorating notes with heady florals and warming white musk.
