Croatia Airlines, the flag carrier of Croatia and a member of the Star Alliance, has proudly received its first A220-300 aircraft at the Airbus Mirabel site in Canada. This marks the beginning of a comprehensive fleet renewal project, the largest in the airline’s history, as it celebrates its 35th anniversary.
The delivery is the first of 13 A220-300 and two A220-100 aircraft that Croatia Airlines has committed to. The A220 model represents a significant technological advancement for the airline, offering 25% lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous generation aircraft.
Passengers and the environment alike will benefit from the A220’s advanced features, which include a 50% reduction in noise footprint and approximately 40% lower NOx emissions than industry standards. The aircraft is also designed to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability by 2030. This new addition is set to help Croatia Airlines reduce operating costs and minimize environmental impact.
Designed specifically for the 100-150 seat market, the A220 can fly non-stop up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 kilometers), making it an ideal choice for Croatia Airlines as it plans to expand its flight network. The A220’s state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials, and Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation GTF™ engines ensure superior passenger comfort with the widest seats, largest windows, and most spacious overhead bins in its class.
By the end of June 2024, around 30 customers have ordered more than 900 A220 aircraft, solidifying its leading position in the small single-aisle market. Currently, over 340 A220s are operating on more than 1,400 routes to over 440 destinations worldwide. To date, more than 100 million passengers have enjoyed flying on the A220, highlighting its popularity and success.
