Airlines are vital to the Yukon economy, offering skilled jobs, transporting goods, and linking Yukoners with nearby communities and Canadian cities.

Airlines play a crucial role in the Yukon economy by providing skilled employment, transporting goods, connecting Yukoners with neighboring communities and Canadian cities, and attracting tourists to the region, which boosts local tourism.

Today, Dr.Brendan Hanley, Member of Parliament for the Yukon, announced that the Government of Canada, represented by the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs and Minister responsible for PrairiesCan and CanNor, is investing $6 million in Air North, Yukon’s Airline. This investment aims to renew its fleet and expand its infrastructure.

The repayable contribution will enable Air North to add a modern, fuel-efficient 737-800 aircraft to its fleet, purchase maintenance tools and spare parts, and build a new 52,800-square-foot hangar. This project will help Air North remain competitive, reduce maintenance costs, and lower fuel consumption per seat by up to 20 percent.

The Government of Canada is committed to supporting this Yukon-based business, headquartered in Whitehorse, to increase its capacity, adopt more fuel-efficient technology, and continue serving Yukoners and visitors to the territory.
