Saudia adds Medan, Indonesia, to its flight network with four weekly trips from Jeddah and Medina starting August 31.

Saudia, Saudi Arabia’s national airline, has expanded its international route offerings by including Medan, Indonesia, as a new destination. This addition follows Jakarta, marking Medan as the second Indonesian city on Saudia’s regular flight schedule. Starting August 31, the airline will operate four weekly round trips from Medan to Jeddah and Medina, enhancing its connectivity with the Kingdom as part of its global expansion strategy to accommodate various passenger categories.

In preparation for this new route, Saudia executives met with representatives from Kualanamu International Airport in Medan to ensure operational readiness and streamline airport processes for optimal passenger flow.

The inclusion of Medina and Jeddah in the Medan route reflects Saudia’s response to the growing demand for travel to religious and historic sites in Saudi Arabia. This initiative is in line with a recent pact with Tibah Airports to boost operations that cater specifically to Umrah and Hajj pilgrims, alongside visitors to significant Islamic locations.

Indonesia, recognized as a major Islamic travel market, plays a crucial role in Saudia’s plans to increase its presence in the Hajj and Umrah sector. These efforts also support the Saudi Vision 2030 goal of hosting 30 million Umrah visitors annually by the end of the decade.

Further enhancing its competitive edge, Saudia is undergoing its largest fleet expansion and modernization program to date, which includes increasing its fleet from 144 to 247 aircraft. This expansion is part of several initiatives aimed at elevating the overall travel experience through innovative aviation technologies.
