Travel Lover’s £1.55 Trick to Get an Extra Bag Onboard Flights – It Has Helped Her Save Big Money

Packing for holidays can often be a challenge, especially with the strict rules surrounding hand luggage. One savvy traveller and popular travel content creator has discovered a clever trick to beat these rules and bring an extra bag on board flights, saving hundreds of pounds in the process.

The content creator, known as ‘Ms Garn Again,’ has visited 54 countries and 74 cities, amassing over 84 million views on her TikTok page where she shares travel tips for unique and underrated destinations. On her Instagram, she explains how to avoid baggage fees often associated with budget airlines that only allow an under-seat bag.

The £1.55 Hack

On a recent trip, Ms Garn Again shared her secret: “Do not pay extra baggage fees. You can get additional luggage for £1.55. If you’re taking a budget flight that only allows a personal item bag, this hack is for you.”

She elaborates, “I bring a bag larger than the requirements and use my baggage trick. After going through Duty Free, instead of exiting, I buy a bottle of water for £1.45 – one of the cheaper items available – and a 10p carrier bag. This way, I can bring the extra items I need without additional fees.” She has successfully used this method at various UK airports, including London Stansted, London Luton, and Gatwick.

Airline Policies

Popular airline Ryanair states: “Your duty-free bag is permitted in the cabin along with your cabin bags.” A representative from London Stansted Airport confirmed: “All airlines flying from London Stansted Airport allow you to take one bag of airport shopping on board along with your hand luggage.”

After sharing her hack, Ms Garn Again received numerous comments from people who have tried it. One commenter said, “Been doing this for years! Also, when going through security, I have two bags of toiletries and just put them in different trays. Security doesn’t know whose tray is whose because there are so many!”

Another added, “One small carrier isn’t going to make much difference.” And another: “This is such a great trick! Saved it for my next flight.”
