Lufthansa, Germany’s premier airline, has reopened its lounge at Newark Airport after extensive renovations. The redesigned lounge, reflecting the stylish elements of Lufthansa’s flagship Allegris cabins, provides travelers with a spacious and sophisticated retreat at this major New York City-area hub.
Returning in Style
After closing last year for extensive renovations, the Lufthansa Lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) has reopened, now transformed into the airline’s inaugural Allegris lounge. Situated near gate 60 in Concourse B3 of Terminal B, the lounge welcomes travelers daily from 14:15 to 21:30, offering a refreshed and elegant space for relaxation.
Lufthansa station manager Mark Suhr shared that the renovation project began some time ago but was delayed due to the Covid pandemic. Now completed, the lounge features increased seating capacity, enhanced comfort, an improved food and beverage selection, and a more appealing overall design, according to Suhr.
During the closure, Lufthansa passengers headed to Frankfurt had access to the United Club Lounge and United Polaris Lounge in Terminal C, with a shuttle service provided to Terminal B. Meanwhile, those traveling to Munich were accommodated at the SAS Lounge in Terminal B.
What’s Inside?
Passengers are greeted at the entrance check-in desk, which features a paneled backdrop adorned with the Lufthansa logo and the word “Welcome” in both English and German.
Deeper within, the dining area has undergone a significant transformation, now boasting more appealing textures. A buffet stretches along one side, and the seating has been enhanced with a mix of chairs and benches to better accommodate travelers.
The bar area has been revamped to exude elegance and sophistication. At its heart is a central U-shaped bar that offers a variety of drinks on tap, along with classic favorites. The redesign incorporates several thoughtful design elements that enhance the overall atmosphere.
One of the most striking features is the expansive wine rack, with bottles artfully arranged to reach towards the ceiling, creating a visually impressive focal point. This stylish addition not only enhances the bar’s aesthetic appeal but also highlights the lounge’s commitment to providing a premium experience.
The airline has designed distinct zones for passengers needing to work. Beyond the dining area, couches, swiveling chairs, and workstations stretch towards the windows, providing excellent views of the tarmac. For larger groups, a conference table is also available.
Additionally, a dedicated section caters exclusively to first-class customers traveling with Star Alliance. This area ensures a premium experience with added privacy and comfort for those high-end travelers.
The reopening of the Newark lounge coincides with Lufthansa’s significant expansion in the US market. This summer, the airline introduced three new routes, adding flights to Raleigh-Durham (RDU), Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), and Seattle-Tacoma (SEA). These additions enhance Lufthansa’s reach and provide more options for travelers.
In addition to its route expansion, Lufthansa remains one of the select few airlines that continue to operate both the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747 on its US routes. This commitment underscores the airline’s dedication to offering diverse and high-capacity aircraft for transatlantic travel.
The new routes and the use of these iconic aircraft models demonstrate Lufthansa’s strategic efforts to strengthen its presence and service offerings in the United States. Passengers can now enjoy more travel options and the unique experience of flying on some of the largest commercial aircraft in operation.
