Canada’s aerospace industry is renowned globally for its leadership and innovation. This recognition was further solidified earlier this week at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom. The Minister of Transport and Quebec Lieutenant Pablo Rodriguez, and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne, represented Canada at the event, meeting with key players in the aerospace, space, and defense sectors.

The Canadian delegation, comprised of representatives from over 30 companies, showcased Canada’s prowess as a premier destination for aerospace investments. Emphasizing Canada’s commitment to sustainable aviation and a greener supply chain, the ministers highlighted the country’s role as a green supplier of choice.

During their visit, Ministers Rodriguez and Champagne held discussions with industry leaders, including the CEOs of Airbus, Bell Textron, and Boeing Defense, Space & Security. They also engaged with CEOs and representatives from prominent Canadian aerospace companies such as De Havilland, Bombardier, and CAE Inc.

Canada’s aerospace industry owes its international acclaim to a highly skilled workforce and the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth through innovation, manufacturing, exports, and services. Minister Champagne took the opportunity to discuss the development of an Aerospace Strategy for Canada, focusing on key areas such as workforce development, sustainable aviation fuel, defense, innovation, and certification.

The Canadian aerospace industry’s impact on the economy is significant. In 2023, it contributed nearly $29 billion to GDP and supported 218,000 jobs. Canada’s aerospace sector ranks among the top five globally in civil flight simulators, civil engines, and civil aircraft sub-segments, with research and development expenditures returning to pre-pandemic levels. This positions Canada as a leader in R&D among all Canadian manufacturing industries.

As Canada continues to build the economy of the future, its aerospace industry remains a cornerstone, providing good-paying jobs and driving innovation and sustainability in the global market.

The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez,Minister of Transport and Quebec Lieutenant “Canada is participating in the Farnborough International Airshow to help Canadian companies find business opportunities.
