Wizz Air, recognized as the world’s most environmentally sustainable airline, announced that it has surpassed 7 million passengers traveling through London Gatwick (LGW) to over 15 countries.

This significant milestone was celebrated on a flight from Budapest Airport to London Gatwick, coinciding with the recent delivery of the airline’s 132nd Airbus A321neo aircraft from the Airbus factory in Hamburg.

In honor of the airline’s 20th anniversary and this milestone achievement, Wizz Air hosted a ‘lucky dip’ competition at the airport on Thursday. Twenty fortunate passengers won Wizz Air vouchers worth £100 each.

Since establishing its base at Gatwick in October 2020, Wizz Air has expanded its operations significantly. The airline now operates flights from London Gatwick to 26 destinations, including Athens, Krakow, Prague, and Vienna, across 17 countries. The Gatwick base employs 250 staff members.

Additionally, Wizz Air recently introduced a new direct summer route from London Gatwick to Varna, Bulgaria, providing UK travelers with more destination choices.

As Europe’s fastest-growing ultra-low-cost airline, Wizz Air operates a fleet of 220 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. A dedicated team of aviation professionals delivers exceptional service and very low fares, making Wizz Air the airline of choice for 62 million passengers in the Financial Year 24, ending 31 March 2024.

Tamara Nikiforova, Senior Communications Manager at Wizz Air, commented: “Marking 7 million passengers at London Gatwick is an incredibly exciting milestone for Wizz Air. As one of Wizz Air UK’s bases, London Gatwick is an important hub for our team and partners. We would like to thank our crew and staff for their continued support and dedication to our passengers. We remain committed to offering customers low-cost airfares to the best off-the-beaten-track destinations in Europe and beyond, and can’t wait to welcome more passengers onboard.”

Stephanie Wear, London Gatwick’s VP of Aviation Development, added: “I’m incredibly pleased to see Wizz Air deliver 7 million passengers at London Gatwick. They have grown consistently since opening their base in the Autumn of 2020 and are a highly valued airline to the Airport. We look forward to welcoming the next 7 million passengers!”
