Sophie Turner Heads to New York for St-Germain Campaign

Sophie Turner is giving a popular summertime staple — the Aperol Spritz — a run for its money.

On Tuesday night, the actress was in New York serving up a floral drink alternative, the Hugo Spritz, on the beauty floor at Bergdorf Goodman. Turner, who stars in a new campaign for elderflower liqueur brand St-Germain, was kicking off the St-Germain Spritz Counter pop-up activation, which will be up at the department store through Sunday.

“I’m looking forward to hanging out with some fun, interesting people, drinking my Hugo Spritzes, and just being in New York for the night,” said Turner, shortly before heading over to Bergdorf Goodman for the event. “I’ve never bar-tended. I think I’ll hop behind the bar, but I’m hoping the drinks are pre-made,” she added. “Let’s hope it’s not me making the drinks. I’m not exactly a mixologist here. I’m just an actress.”

Turner stars in a cheeky short film for the brand, shot at a castle in the South of France, in which she describes what she’s looking for to the man stationed behind the bar: “something different, fresh, fun.” The subtext is romantic, but he instead volleys back the perfect cocktail: a St-Germain Hugo Spritz.

The concept was an ode to early 2000s rom-coms. “Which was also really exciting for me, because I don’t think I’ve ever really done a rom-com,” Turner said, adding that the dress she wears in the film is an homage to the yellow dress worn by Kate Hudson in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” “That was the golden era for rom-coms,” she adds. “I’m hoping for a rom-com resurgence.”

Although not quite a rom-com, Turner notes that there is some comedy and romance in her upcoming crime drama “Joan,” which premieres in September. Turner leads the miniseries as Joan Hannington, touted as Britain’s most notorious jewel thief.

“What people can expect from the series is honestly everything,” said Turner. “It’s got crime, intrigue. It’s funny — she’s so funny. It’s got a love story,” she added, also touting Hannington’s “resilience” and dedication to her family. “She lives for her child, and that’s how she gets caught up in all this diamond thieving,” she said. “She doesn’t care what people think of her. It’s the name of her book — ‘I am what I am,’ and take me or leave me — and that was such a fun character to play.”

But before introducing “Joan” to audiences, Turner is turning her attention back to summer — and work.

“I would like to go to the beach at some point, but right now I’m working in London and it’s basically pissing it down with rain every day,” said Turner, who was headed back to London right after the event. “So I don’t really feel like I’m getting much of a summer, but I’m hoping to do a few more barbecues, maybe go to the beach soon. You know, just drink my spritz with a nice hot dog with my friends, my kids. That’s kind of a dream summer for me: just relaxing, sunbathing, taking it easy.”
