Berlin’s BER Experiences Significant Growth in Passenger Traffic In Early 2024

Passenger numbers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) continued to climb in the first half of 2024. Between January and June, 11.8 million passengers traveled through BER, marking a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Aircraft movements also saw a rise, with an 11.7% increase, totaling around 87,000 take-offs and landings.

In June 2024 alone, approximately 2.34 million passengers used BER, reflecting an 11.6% increase from June 2023, which saw about 2.1 million passengers. The busiest day was June 14, with 89,580 passengers. However, compared to June 2019, when Tegel and Schönefeld airports recorded 3.26 million passengers, there was a 28.3% decrease in June 2024.

The number of aircraft movements in June 2024 was 17,980, representing a 10.7% increase from June 2023’s 16,243 movements. In June 2019, Tegel and Schönefeld together saw 25,707 flight movements.

BER also set a new record for air freight in June 2024, handling around 3,961 tonnes. This marks a 47.2% increase from June 2023’s 2,690 tonnes and a 33.8% increase from June 2019’s 2,960 tonnes.
