Greece will be present at the 121st UN Tourism Executive Council to be held in Barcelona, Spain, during June 10-11. Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni will represent the country.

The Executive Council is UN Tourism’s governing board, responsible for ensuring that the organization carries out its work and adheres to its budget.

It meets at least twice a year and is composed by members elected by the General Assembly in a ratio of one for every five full members.

Greece was re-elected as a member last year and will participate in the Executive Council for the 2023-2025 period.

On the sidelines of the Executive Council, the Greek minister will have bilateral contacts with her counterparts as well as executives of tourism organizations.

Moreover, the Memorandum of Cooperation for the Mediterranean Coastal and Maritime Tourism Observatory in the Mediterranean is expected to be renewed in Barcelona.

Established by Greece at the initiative of the Tourism Ministry, the observatory aims to measure and monitor the environmental, social and economic impacts of coastal and marine tourism in the Mediterranean.

According to the Greek Tourism Ministry, 12 Mediterranean countries have already expressed their desire to participate, while several more support the initiative and wish to participate under observer status.
