United Airlines unveiled Kinective Media by United Airlines, a pioneering media network tailored to leverage travel behavior insights. This innovation aims to deliver customized, instant advertisements, content, and promotional offers from premier brands directly to travelers.

This advanced technology platform enables marketers to extend their advertising reach via multiple channels, including United’s top-rated mobile app and inflight entertainment systems. United anticipates that this initiative will enrich the experience of its MileagePlus® members with more tailored and timely offers, thereby enhancing customer loyalty.

Kinective Media has already established partnerships with notable entities such as Norwegian Cruise Line, Macy’s, Chase United Co-Brand Credit Cards, TelevisaUnivision, and IHG Hotels & Resorts, along with advertising giants like Dentsu. The strategy focuses on fostering high-value brand collaborations within sectors including retail, luxury, finance, automotive, media, and travel.

A full-scale commercial debut of Kinective Media is set for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Kinective Media by United Airlines is designed to elevate the travel experience and bolster the confidence that passengers have in United. The system ensures the privacy of travelers as it does not utilize personally identifiable information. Instead, it generates aggregated and anonymized data segments from insights gathered from U.S. customers aged 18 and older, which are then made available to advertisers. All U.S. customers can opt out of targeted advertising from Kinective Media at any time.

United’s Mobile App and Inflight Entertainment Options

Through Kinective Media, partners have the opportunity to broadcast their content via United’s most influential channels: its highly acclaimed mobile app and the extensive network of inflight entertainment screens. These platforms are recognized as some of the most effective advertising spaces within the industry.

The United Mobile App is the most downloaded airline app globally, boasting over 110 million downloads on both iOS and Android platforms, with nearly 100 million active user sessions each month. United is committed to continuously enhancing its app with pioneering features designed to simplify the travel process. These features include automated seat upgrades from middle to aisle or window seats based on availability, as well as real-time personalized flight updates through Live Activities for iPhone users.

Seatback Entertainment Systems

United’s fleet features nearly 100,000 seatback screens, with plans to expand this number as new aircraft are introduced and existing ones are upgraded under the United Next initiative. These screens offer a potential engagement time of approximately 3.5 hours per traveler, based on average flight durations. The content on these screens, which is also accessible via passengers’ personal devices, includes complimentary access to over 2,800 movies and TV shows, along with innovative features like a 3D moving map, updated gate information for connections, and digital menus for onboard services. The content is available in more than 20 languages.

Additionally, United’s latest cabin designs feature 16-inch HD touch screens in each United Polaris® business class seat, 13-inch screens in every first class seat, and 10-inch screens in all economy class seats.
